The Vineyard Academy supports students interested in business, culinary arts, event planning, and hospitality working together using technology principles to complete hands on projects.
Starting in Windsor Middle School, students….. In 9th and 10th Grades, students are in VA SOL. In 11th and 12th Grades, students are in Vineyard Academy.
Introduction to Mechanics at WHS
No Class Prerequisite – 9-12 grade
This one-year concentrator course provides students with the foundational concepts required for career readiness and potential college credits* for students pursuing further education in the Welding and Materials Joining career pathway. Students learn basic metal-working trade skills such as machine tool technology, metal welding, metal forging and casting. Students will gain basic experience in metalworking, skills in metal art and industrial occupations by working on a variety of activities and projects to include: personal safety, good housekeeping, bench and hand tools, metals,
welding unit, sheet metal unit, forging and casting units, manual machine tool types and operations.
Advanced Fabrication and Materials Joining
Class Prerequisite: Intro to Mechanics
This is a one-year capstone course spent exploring advanced metal-working skills: machine tool technology, metal welding, metal forging and casting. Students will continue to improve their skills by welding corner and edge joints before advancing to more complex techniques. Students will design, create and market products based on specifications of clients and complete high-level work based learning projects. Students may take multiple years of this course and advance their skills.

Automotive I
Class Prerequisite: Intro to Mechanics
Students that have successfully completed Introduction to Mechanics and have shown mastery in personal safety may continue to Automotive I. This course will expose students to all areas involving the repair, maintenance and restoration of vehicles. Students will also have access to engines and
automotive welding.

Automotive II
Class Prerequisite: Automotive I
This is a one-year capstone course. It is for students that have completed two years at the shop. Students will work on larger projects but will be more self-directed and will have the opportunity
to work on their own projects with advanced teacher approval.
